írskar kveðjur

- May your troubles be as few and far between
As my grandmother's teeth.

- May you work like you don't need the money,
Love like you've never been hurt, and
Dance like no one is watching.

- Dance as though no one is watching you,
Love as though you have never loved before,
Sing as though no one can hear you,
Live as though heaven is on earth.

- Here's to a long life and a merry one;
A quick death and an easy one;
A pretty girl and an honest one;
A cold beer -- and another one!

- Here's to you and here's to me
I pray that friends we'll always be,
But if by chance we disagree,
The heck with you and here's to me!

c_documents_and_settings_margret_my_documents_my_pictures_stmartins.jpg

Bless to me, O God
Each thing my eye sees,
Each sound my ear hears,
Each person I meet.

Circle me, Lord.
Keep peace within, keep harm without.
Circle me, Lord.
Keep love within, keep hate without.

Christ beside me
Christ before me
Christ behind me
Christ before me
Christ beneath me
Christ above me...
Christ in heart of all who meet me.

Sleep in peace,
Sleep soundly,
Sleep in love.
Weaver of dreams
Weave well in you as you sleep.

Big Sea, Little Boat
Dear God, be good to me;
The sea is so wide,
And my boat is so small.
fisherman's prayer

May those who love us, love us.
And those who don't love us,
May God turn their hearts;
And if He doesn't turn their hearts,
May He turn their ankles,
So we will know them by their limping.

If there is righteousness in the heart,
there will be beauty in the character.
If there is beauty in the character,
there will be harmony in the home.
If there is harmony in the home,
there will be order in the nation.
If there is order in the nation,
there will be peace in the world.
So let it be
Scottish Blessing

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Quote

"A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic – on a level with the man who says he is a poached egg – or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God; or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to."

- C.S. Lewis, British author (1898-1963)

"Every person is Christ for me, and since there is only one Jesus, that person is the one person in the world at that moment."

- Mother Teresa (1910-97)

"2,000 years ago one man got nailed to a tree for saying how great it would be if everyone was nice to each other for a change."

- Douglas Adams, British comic author and radical atheist (1952-2001)

Óskaspjald

hér er hugmynd að hvernig maður eigi að framkvæma drauma sína eða bara átta sig á því hvað það er sem maður vill gera.

Maður klippir út þær myndir í blöðum sem höfða til manns og maður vill eignast, t.d. ef þig langar í líkamsrækt en hefur þig ekki af stað, klippir þú út mynd af einhverjum að æfa. Svo límir maður allar myndirnar á spjald, sem á að staðsetja þar sem maður sér það á hverjum degi, þannig  fer þetta inní undirmeðvitundina og að nokkrum tíma liðnum er maður orðin það sem maður óskaði sér. Volá!

Positive energy attracts positive energy. If you think positive thoughts you will attract positive events into your life.Brosandi

Hér er nánari útlistun: óskaspjald      dream

Ég gerði svona spjald í janúar og so far hefur 40%(7 myndir af 16) orðið að veruleika. Ekki slæmt.

Spurning að kaupa svona og stofna sína eigin kirkju, maður getur þá bara komið heim til fólks og blásið þetta upp þar, mjög þægilegt. Er líka bara svoldið sætt.

kostar cirka 2,5 milljón kirkja fyrir 10 manns. Þeir bjóða líka uppá uppblásna bari.

The Old Man of the Steppes Finds a Horse

Kínversk saga, hlutirnir eru ekki alltaf það sem þeir sýnast:

Once upon a time, there was a wise old man who lived in the steppes. He owned many horses. One evening, after a long day of working in the fields, he came home to discover that one of his horses--a mare, had run off. His family and his neighbours searched the surrounding area. When they finally gave up, they sent him their condolences, “We are sorry that this unfortunate incident happened to you.” The old man of the steppes remarked calmly, “The loss of my mare is not necessarily a bad thing. All will be shown for its true worth in time.”

Hestar

The next morning, the old man of the steppes looked up in the horizon and saw two horses coming towards his house. The first horse was his mare that had run off, and the other was a stallion following the mare. Even from a distance, he could see that this stallion was a war horse of great stature and worth. That evening, the old man’s family and his neighbours celebrated the return of his mare as well as his newly acquired stallion. At the celebration, he was called upon to make a speech. The old man of the steppes stood up and remarked calmly, “The acquisition of this stallion is not necessarily a good thing. all will be shown for its true worth in time.”

A week later, the old man’s son took the stallion out for a ride. Not being skilled in manoeuvering a great war horse, the boy suffered a terrible fall. As a result, his leg was broken. The old man’s family and his neighbours crowded around the boy and commented, “This is an awful thing that has happened. This stallion has brought bad luck to the family.” The old man of the steppes stood by the boy and remarked calmly, “This accident is not necessarily a bad thing. All will be shown for its true worth in time.”

Sometime later, the kingdom was involved in a cruel and unjust war with a neighbouring kingdom. All the young men of the kingdom were called upon to enlist in the army. The old man’s neighbours lamented as all their sons were called off to fight in the war. It was impossible to escape the draft as the enlisting officers moved from county to county and house to house in search of all the young men. Inevitably, they finally came upon the old man’s house.

Seeing the stallion in the yard, they remarked to themselves, “This must be the home of a great warrior. But why has this coward not gone off to war? We must seize him at once.” When they searched the house, they found only the old man of the steppes, his wife and their crippled son. The enlisting officers then remarked, “This young man would have been a fine soldier if it were not for his broken leg. We cannot take him with us.” And thus, their son was exempted from fighting in the war. The old man’s neighbours, observing with amazement the declared, “What wisdom this old man has, that he can foresee both good and bad incidences for what they are truly worth!”

Going tribal

c_documents_and_settings_margret_my_documents_my_pictures_hamar_episode.jpg

Þetta er þáttur á Discovery. Þar er kall sem fer og býr með innfæddum og lifir einsog þau á allan hátt í einhverjar vikur. Jay Leno tók viðtal við hann og þetta virðist ansi spennandi og sniðug hugmynd.

,,Parry sheds social trappings (and sometimes his Western clothes) by living alongside people from the virtually unexplored areas of the Himalayas, Ethiopia, West Papua, Gabon and Mongolia. To the degree possible, while spending a month immersed in each society, Parry also tries to adopt the methods and practices of his hosts.

Parry enthusiastically embraces jungle hunting and the rituals of the warrior, being taught by strangers how to survive using bows, arrows, blowpipes, dogs, spears, traps, snares and clubs. He must cook and eat his catch using traditional methods such as hot stones, waxy leaves and bamboo pots."

BaBemba þjóðflokkurinn

c_documents_and_settings_margret_my_documents_my_pictures_zambia_religious_traditions.jpg

Þetta er saga úr bókinni um fyrirgefninguna, veit ekki hvort hún er sönn eða hvað en engu að síður áhugaverð:

"In the Babemba tribe, when a person acts irresponsible or unjustly, he or she is placed in the center of the village, alone, unfettered. All work ceases. The entire village gathers around the accused individual. Then each person of every age begins to talk out loud to the accused. One at a time, each person tells ALL THE GOOD THINGS the one in the center ever did in his or her lifetime.

Every incident, every experience that can be recalled with any detail and accuracy, is recounted. All positive attributes, good deeds, strengths, and acts of kindness are recited carefully and at length. No one is permitted to fabricate, exaggerate or be facetious about the accomplishments or positive aspects of the accused person.

The tribal ceremony often lasts several days, not ceasing until everyone is drained of every positive comment that can be mustered. At the end, the tribal circle is broken, a joyous celebration takes place, and the person is symbolically welcomed back into the tribe. Necessity for such ceremonies is rare."

Hér er hrósað í stað þess að hegna fyrir afbrot, ansi sérstakt.

----------------------------------------------------------

Hér eru auk þess nokkur orðatiltæki frá þessum þjóðflokki sem er í Zambíu:

1. Uwa kwensha ubushiku ba mutasha nga bwacha

Meaning: "You can only thank the person who helped you walk in the night once it is dawn." This saying implies that most beneficial things are difficult to implement, but once implemented everyone can see the benefits and are grateful.

2. Umwana ashenda atashishe nina uku naya.

Meaning: "The child that has never travelled, thinks its mother is the best cook there is." This saying implies that until you are exposed to other places by travelling, your notion will always be that what you see around your country is the best. Yet there can be, and there are, cultures more advanced than yours in their own ways.

3. Imiti iikula empanga

Meaning: "The young trees are the forest". This saying applies to children who are the future of tomorrow.

Fyrirgefningin

c_documents_and_settings_margret_my_documents_my_pictures_3567.jpg
